A key component in language learning is where the learning takes place. The two most common places today are probably the classroom and the smart phone. Learning a language in a classroom with a teacher is of course a very structured way of learning. And learning a language on a language app on your smart phone is flexible and available. However, a classroom or an app still holds a distance to the real world, to the real places where the languages are actually living.
Putting language learning into a real context will make it more effective. It will also make it more inspirational. More real. That’s why the language learning we’re dreaming of takes place in the places we dream of: on the beaches of Biarritz, in the book stores of Rive gauche, in the bars of Navigli and in the design stores of Neukölln.
